Connected- Oil On Canvas
Connected- Oil On Canvas
A couple of summers ago, I had the privilege of visiting Claude Monet’s house in Giverny. I visited his house, his garden, walked around the lily ponds, took in the sun, the plants, the many roses, breathed in the fresh flowery perfumed air and took a million pictures.
Later in the studio, I chose one of the pictures from that day, and decided to use it as a reference for my newest painting. I knew I wanted to paint Monet’s lily pond like many hundreds of other people have done before me, but if I was going to paint, I wanted to connect. Connect with Monet’s environment, his garden, but also connect to my own creative process. Painting can be about portraying the reality that’s in front of you, but painting is also about connection, feeling, and expression.
This painting is called "Connected", as I find that just as I connected with Monet’s surroundings, I connected with my own creative process and my inner knowing as an artist. It is my biggest hope that in the same way I connected then, I’ll connect with you. For you see, we are all just one, you, me, Monet, and the waterlilies.
